7 Tips to Keep Cool During a Summer Pregnancy | Bella Baby Photography
Are you pregnant this summer? It’s no secret that pregnancy often comes with a few uncomfortable symptoms, and many of these issues can feel more miserable in the summer. Bella Baby Photography wants to help you enjoy a better nine months with these cool tips.
Eat less salt.
Reduce your salt and sodium consumption to help prevent some of that unwanted swelling. You don’t want to completely cut out sodium because your baby does need some, but try to stay beneath the recommended daily limit of 2,400mg.
Put your rings away.
If you begin to feel some swelling, remove your rings right away and put them in a safe place. Fingers are often the first place to begin swelling during pregnancy and the heat only exacerbates the issue. Removing your rings will protect them so they don’t need to be cut off later.
Try swimming.
Hitting the pool during pregnancy is a great way to cool off and help relieve some of the pressure you might be feeling on your the sciatic nerve. It’s also a great way to get in a little exercise too!
Use a cool compress.
You can use ice packs or cool compresses to get some relief when the weather is scorching. If you don’t have a compress or ice pack, use a washcloth dampened with cool water. Place it on your neck or forehead to help bring your body temperature back down and sweat less.
Stay hydrated.
During pregnancy, you should aim to drink at least two liters of clear liquids (like water) every day. In the summer months, you should add an additional eight ounces for every hour that you spend in the heat to replace the water you lose through your sweat.
Chill out with popsicles.
When you get tired of drinking fluids, mix it up with some healthy homemade popsicles. You can blend healthy ingredients like nonfat yogurt, walnuts, and blueberries and freeze them in popsicle molds for a cool and nutritious snack to benefit you and baby.
Put your feet up.
Whenever possible give your swollen feet and legs a break with elevation. Whether you’re at home or work, put your feet up on a stool or ottoman to help reduce extra swelling.
