4 Tips to Photograph Your New Baby

If you’ve just brought home a new baby, you’re probably trying to take a lot of photos to capture as many changes and memories as you can. Check out our top tips to help you take better portraits at home.

Safety First
All parents want to get great photos, but let’s never forget to prioritize safety! Here at Bella Baby Photography, we believe that babies look best in the arms of a caregiver, and in a simple birthday suit, favorite blanket, diaper or onesie. But if you choose to shoot a difficult pose or use props, always have another pair of eyes and hands to help you.

Relax
Taking photos of your newborn should be fun—don’t let it feel forced or as stressful as midterm exams! Because this is your baby, you get to take your time to build a gallery of portraits with a lot of range. So definitely give yourself time to rest, recover and relax as you bond with your new baby. Aim for a few photos each day, but don’t fuss about always making that perfect shot.

Light Right
The number one tip for better home baby photos is to take advantage of natural light that comes from above your baby. Natural sunlight is the best light source we have. Try to angle your baby so the light flows from the top of their head and down their body at a 45-degree angle.

Happy Time
New babies love warmth and calm. You can typically enjoy a better home photo session when you keep the environment cozy and warm for the duration of the shoot. Also consider using a white noise machine to help keep your baby content! And of course, try to take your photos after your baby has been fed and their diaper changed—and avoid their fussy hours.

Remember, if you’re looking for beautiful photos in the comfort of your home in a stress-free session, Bella Life Photography picks up where Bella Baby Photography left off in the hospital!
